How to Beat the Instagram Algorithm and Grow your Following Organically
I recently noticed my engagement on Instagram was decreasing significantly so I began doing research about how I could bring my engagement rate back up. I found these helpful tips and once I started doing them I noticed my engagement rate went back up and I also gained a lot of new and organic followers. Here are the tips that have helped me beat the algorithm and increase my engagement.
Delete ghost followers.
Ghost accounts are just taking up space and lowering your engagement rate because they don’t like or comment on your posts. By deleting them you can help increase your overall engagement rate.
Remove your least interacted with followers.
These followers might as well be ghost followers because they are not engaging with you so they are also lowering your engagement rate. To find them, open your Instagram app and go to your “Following” list and you’ll see “Least Interacted With” right at the top of the list. Removing a lot of these followers can help increase your engagement rate.
Engage more!
If you want more engagement, you have to engage more! Like, comment, react to stories, etc. Send direct messages to accounts in your niche and strike up a conversation. This will help drive people to your account who otherwise wouldn’t come across your page.
Be more interactive with your audience in stories and IG live. People love to see live videos and feel like they can interact with you and have a conversation.
Collaborating with large brands on giveaways is also a great way to grow your following. This allows you to be exposed to the brand’s entire audience and if they have a huge following there is a greater chance that you’ll gain a lot of followers from the collaboration and exposure.
Upgrade your content quality.
The quality of your content is extremely important. Make sure your photos and videos are clear and have good lighting. Also post content on a consistent basis. If you struggle with this, create a posting schedule and hold yourself accountable. Keep in mind, videos attract more attention than photos so be sure to post more videos than photos.
Aesthetic is also important. Instagram accounts that follow a certain aesthetic look cleaner and more appealing to the eye. When new followers come across your page they are more likely to follow if they see a well curated feed.
Use IG’s promotion tool strategically.
It’s important to invest in your craft. Using Instagram’s promotion tool is a great way to gain exposure and get your content shown to a lot of followers that wouldn’t normally come across your posts. There’s nothing worse than creating an amazing video, staying up all night editing until it’s perfect and only getting like 10 views when posting it. Now I’m not saying you should promote every video you create but be strategic and promote the videos that you’ve really spent time and energy perfecting.
By following all of these tips, I’m sure you’ll be able to increase your following and engagement. If you found this blog post helpful be sure to follow me on Instagram and subscribe to my blog to stay up to date with all of my posts!
