Puerto Rican hot dogs are piled high with ground beef, onions, mayo-ketchup, and papitas (potato sticks). The ingredient that stands out, in my opinion, are the onions which are cooked in a savory sauce infused with sofrito, tomato sauce, and ketchup. These hot dogs are next-level delicious!

Add sofrito, tomato sauce, bouillon, onions and peppers. Add seasonings and cook for a few minutes until the vegetables become tender.
Add a little water if the picadillo dries up. Cover and remove from heat.
Cook the onions
Place a skillet over medium high heat. Add a drizzle of olive oil and the sliced onions. Sauté for about 2 minutes.
Add sofrito, tomato sauce, ketchup, seasonings, and water.
Cook for about 5 minutes or until the onions are soft and the sauce has thickened. Cover and remove from heat.
Cook the hot dogs
Add hot dogs to a pot of boiling water. Cook for 5 minutes. Drain the water.
