If you\u2019re a curly girl, you know the results of a wash and go can be different every time you do it. Aside from the hair products and methods you\u2019re using, many other factors can contribute to the outcome of your wash and go. The weather, humidity level, time of the year, etc. Despite all of these different possible scenarios, there are a few things I have learned along my curly hair journey that can pretty much guarantee a PERFECT wash and go. Here are my top tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Get a fresh trim.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Whether you choose to go to a hairstylist for a trim or go the DIY route, a fresh trim can dramatically improve the overall health and shape of your hair. This will most definitely result in a great wash and go because your hair will react better to the products you apply and your curls will have more bounce and shape because you let go of those dead ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Do a detoxifying clay mask.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Detoxifying your hair and scalp is key to obtaining a great wash and go. Sometimes the hair products we apply to our hair builds up over time and can cause our hair follicles to become clogged. This prevents oils and moisture from penetrating our hair and scalp which can lead to dryness, dandruff and breakage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      To clarify your hair and scalp, try applying a clay mask. I love using Indian Healing Clay<\/a><\/strong> mixed with Apple Cider Vinegar. For added moisture, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Mix the clay with the ACV until its consistency is smooth. Apply this mixture to your hair in sections and wear a plastic shower cap for about 20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Section, section, section!<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        When applying your styling products it\u2019s important to divide your hair into small sections. This ensures each strand of hair is saturated with product, which will result in amazing definition. In my experience, the more sections I work with the better the outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        1. Diffuse on low heat.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          It\u2019s very important to diffuse your hair on low heat. I know it\u2019s tempting to diffuse on high heat because it\u2019s much more effective at drying your hair quickly but high heat can cause a lot of unwanted frizz and even heat damage. So take your time while diffusing on low heat and don\u2019t scrunch as you diffuse. Let the diffuser do its job and be patient. The results will be worth it in the end!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Remember, this step only applies if you prefer diffusing as opposed to air drying. I personally do not air dry because my curls are weighed down when wet and it affects my curl pattern by stretching it out. Diffusing helps add extra bounce to my curls and adds definition as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          If you prefer air drying then you should do that. Everyone\u2019s hair is different so follow whatever drying method you prefer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          1. Do not touch your hair until it\u2019s 100% dry.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            You may be tempted to scrunch your hair and fluff your curls during the drying process but this can cause frizz. Your hair is also more fragile when wet so messing around with it too much can cause breakage. It\u2019s best to wait until hair is fully dry to separate curls and fluff with pick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            I prefer metal picks but be cautious not to be too rough because they can cause breakage. I start separating my curls from the bottom to the top. Then I go in with the pick and fluff gently at the roots. This creates amazing volume without the frizz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            To preserve your wash and go, sleep in a satin bonnet or wrap your curls with a silk or satin scarf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
