It is delicious and comforting. This cut of steak is pounded with a meat tenderizer. The name comes from the indentations left by the process, which resemble small cubes. Cube steak is a common cut of meat used for chicken-fried steak. The textured surface of cube steak holds seasonings, breading, and marinades well. Rinse thoroughly with cold water. Place the steak in a large bowl and add 1 tbsp of oil, vinegar, half of the crushed garlic, adobo, saz\u00f3n, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, and black pepper. Toss the steak until evenly coated in the marinade. You can allow this to marinate for a couple of hours or refrigerate overnight, but I typically skip this step to save time. I actually don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s a deal breaker because the steak will taste delicious either way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Place a pan over medium high heat. Sometimes I like to add some sugar to the pan to get a nice brown color on the steak, but this is optional. Sear the steak on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the steak from the pan and lower the heat to medium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Add the remaining olive oil to the pan along with sofrito, the rest of the crushed garlic, tomato sauce, and olives. Saut\u00e9 until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Add the steak back to the pan and top with the sliced onions. Add water, bay leaf, and cover. Continue cooking on low heat for about 30 minutes or until the steak is tender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">*Since cube steak can sometimes be tough and hard to tenderize, I also added a pressure cooker method to the recipe below. Sometimes I cook this bistec in a pressure cooker to save time and it results in a much tender steak. If you don&#8217;t have a pressure cooker, I highly suggest getting one. It&#8217;s especially good for stew recipes like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/curlsnpearlsss.com\/es\/pollo-guisado-recipe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pollo guisado<\/a><\/strong> y <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/curlsnpearlsss.com\/es\/rabo-guisado-puerto-rican-oxtail-stew\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rabo guisado<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/curlsnpearlsss.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/bistec-encebollado-3.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"Bistec encebollado, Puerto Rican steak and onions\" class=\"wp-image-5646\" style=\"width:450px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to serve with bistec encebollado?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Bistec encebollado pairs beautifully with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/curlsnpearlsss.com\/es\/arroz-blanco-puerto-rican-white-rice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">white rice<\/a><\/strong> y <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/curlsnpearlsss.com\/es\/puerto-rican-beans-habichuelas-guisadas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">habichuelas guisadas<\/a><\/strong>, tostones or sweet plantains, and avocado or salad.
