Blackberry margarita

Blackberry Margarita (Margarita de Mora)

This blackberry margarita or margarita de mora is the perfect cocktail for a Halloween party! A sprinkle of activated charcoal turns this drink black for a spooky effect!

Is activated charcoal safe to drink?

Yes, activated charcoal is safe to drink in small doses. In medicine, activated charcoal is used as an emergency treatment for certain kinds of poisoning or overdoses. It helps prevent the toxins from being absorbed from the stomach into the body, but much larger doses are necessary in emergency treatment. In this case, we are only using a tiny pinch so it won’t have any significant effect on the body and won’t change the taste of the cocktail.

I use Rawnice activated charcoal. I like this brand because it’s all about making healthy foods more fun and all of its products are 100% plant based and vegan. I especially love the rainbow collection which features vibrant, colorful powders in every color you can think of. I use them in my drink recipes and sometimes to make fun pancakes or smoothies for my kids! (Btw this is not sponsored, I just enjoy the products!)

  • Jugo de lima

How to make margarita de mora:

On a small plate, add sea salt or sugar and a pinch of activated charcoal. Mix to combine. Dip the rim of the margarita glass in simple syrup or run a lime wedge around the rim. Dip the rim in the black mixture and set aside.

Muddle blackberries in a cup and add to a cocktail shaker. Add tequila, triple sec, lime juice, limeade, simple syrup, and the remaining activated charcoal to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

Shake vigorously for about 10 to 15 seconds and strain into the rimmed glass. Garnish with blackberries. Enjoy!

Puedo hacer la bebida sin alcohol?

Yes, just omit the alcohol to turn this drink into a spooky mocktail. In place of the alcohol, you can use sparkling water or more limeade. Try blackberry sparkling water for more bold blackberry flavor!
